Carter SD-12?

Post by Jeffrey Shu »

I made contact with the daughter of a steel player who's still playing, but, sadly, suffering from dementia. She's likely to sell some of the gear he's no longer using (at least he's still able to play!). I know nothing about 12-string models other than to count the strings. Would appreciate any descriptions you forum experts might share as well as a ballpark valuation. Is this a SD-12 4x4? Is an "extended E9 or E/B or something completely different? As I said, I know nothing. Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing it's a early 2000's SD-12 Extended E9 4 pedals. Most had 5 kls. One left leg vertical .$2500-3000 IMHO

The first and fifth digit of the serial number will tell you the year. Serial # 04563778 for example is a 2003. The Carter logo is a decal not an emblem so its probably an earlier than later manufacturer year. Not that that matters much. They didn't change the design significantly.

3 over 3 vs. 4 over 2....does that mean anything date wise?

Thanks so much! I assume this is an all-pull? BTW, waiting on the owner to send me the serial number.
