Brown Emmons Nameplate

Post by Bob Snelgrove »

My new rosewood PP has a brown nameplate. Was that common back in the 70's?

I might want to buy a black one if anyone sells those?

thx

Hi, Bob, my '71 rosewood has a brown plate. I believe they're considerably more rare, you might find somebody who'd love to trade with you. But if you step back from the guitar a bit, you might find the brown is a better blend with the finish! I like it.

That's what I thought. I wouldn't get rid of the brown one, tho :)

My '75 rosewood has a brown logo plate. I agree with Mark... it blends well with the rosewood mica.

Brown Emmons Badge

Post by Lynn Stafford »

Bob,

Mark is correct, as those brown metal badges are very rare (and expensive). I got a quote of $100 for a new one from Emmons Guitar recently

I also feel they look better with rosewood mica...for what it's worth :)

______

Hi Mark, I'm sure glad you're enjoying that guitar I sold you!
Best regards,
Lynn Stafford

Lynn, I just love it. It's a really fine guitar and fits me well, and I just love the way it sounds and "pushes back", very inspiring. I can never say enough about your mechanical work!

Gosh, Lynn. I have seven of the metal Emmons badges. I had eight but I gave one away yesterday in the Wanted classifieds. Mine are all black, however.

My 69 has a brown badge - I kind of like the way it calls out how old it is. Keep the brown one!!

Thanks Jack! Believe it or not, I've been using that same milk crate since 1979! Old habits are hard to break.

Was the brown only used on the Rosewood?

My '73 P/P is rosewood and it has a brown plate. Personally, I like the brown plate on the rosewood and all, but the decals ARE the coolest.

Doug,
There's a really PO'ed Milkman somewhere in Massachusetts!

I have owned three rosewood mica Emmons guitars. A '68 wood neck bolt on that had a brown badge ( and a very cool but flimsy red cardboard case), a '81 P/P that came with a black badge, and the second short key head Legrand made (I'm thinking it was made in 79/80?), that has a brown badge.
While there's no doubting the vintage vibe of the brown, I actually prefer the look of the black on rosewood, it adds contrast and accentuates the dark steaks in the "wood" pattern.
I do wish I had a brown one for the p/p which is currently covered in a Diamondback snake skin!

My '69 Rosewood D-10 also had the Brown metal plate on it when I got it in '75 (...for $600!)
Are all the brown ones metal, or did Emmons switch to plastic like the later black plates?

I agree on the contrast. I'll look for a black one but will keep the brown. I think my brown one is plastic, too.

But I do agree with Bill Terry...I love the decals...what year did they stop the decal and go to the name plate!

I have a brown metal nameplate for my '75 S-10 rosewood.

The white paint has been worn off a lot of the border and some of the lettering - upon close inspection it appears to have been painted with white-out.

I'd like to fix it, but as a numismatist I'm also aware that doing so may make it of less value - but then again I'm not gonna sell the plate.

Thoughts?
