First of all '' PLEASE '' don't read into this post anything other than what i am saying !!! We have a good '' Ohio Steel Guitar Association '' here in Ohio that is doing very well . It has been suggested to me that '' MAYBE '' we need a Gospel club that would be doing jams in area churches . I have been asked to start doing Gospel jams at some of the Churches that have Gospel singing on a regular basis . This wouldn't have anything to do with the O.S.G.A. The O.S.G.A. would still be doing their regular jams as usual .'' UNDERSTAND THIS PLEASE '' ! The Gospel jams would be booked around the O.S.G.A. jams . The O.S.G.A. would be our main Steel Guitar Club as we have a regular bunch of supporters that come to hear what we play ,and we are thankful for them . This is only a '' feeler '' if you will , to see what kind of response we get to this post ! You can e-mail me with your opinion if you want to do that . Remember this is only a '' feeler '' to see if you really want a ''Gospel Club '' . Best regards and i will be looking for your reply . G.P.
Thanks Larry ,i understand there are others also . We will let the post run and see where it goes . As i said folks can e-mail me if they don't want to reply on the forum . Best regards , G.P.
That sounds SUPER AWESOME..Now if I only lived back in Dayton, OH...Have lots of good memories of going to Gospel Concerts in Dayton..Best of luck to you whichever way u go with it!
Gary,
You should be commended.
We need more of a presence in gospel music.
Doug Rolfe put on an annual gospel steel guitar show in Indianapolis and I really miss it since he discontinued it. It was a real blessing.
May the good Lord's blessings be on your endeavor.
Erv
Thanks guys for the encouragement . We have talked about doing this for a long time now . We will see if it is still wanted . Erv , I had four of the Gospel Jubilees and it was work and expensive . If i could get the support that it takes to do right by the out of state players i would keep doing them . Maybe someday someone will step up to the plate with support and i can get them rolling again . Best regards , G.P.
Hey Gary, Sure wish Ohio was closer, I would be there in a flash. Nothing like steel guitar and gospel music. I hope you can get it going. Good Luck, Ron
Ron ,nothing would make me any happier than to do a '' Gospel Steel Guitar Jam '' every month . If we can get enough Churches interested then maybe we can get it done . Lets see how it goes . I hope the word gets out real fast . God Bless . G.P.
Wish we had one in North Carolina. No better place to play a steel guitar than church. Maybe you are the start of something that will go to every state. God works in misterious ways. No better sounding instrument to me than a steel guitar. Good luck and I hope ya'll get to play every weekend you want to. Keep us informed on how things go !!
Hi Johnny . I have been the President of the Ohio Steel Guitar Association since it started . So if the folks step up to the plate as i suppose they will ,then i will try to organize the group . I think this would be good for Ohio in my opinion . Thanks for your reply . G.P.
Love to see it happen. I wonder if there is a way to combine some of the classics on steel guitar while doing a Gospel steel guitar show. I just think some people would love to support it if there could be some openness to doing at least some other tasteful music. Only a thought. I would love to see it fly!
This is what we are doing now and it isn't working very well . The O.S.G.A. club does all styles of music from Gospel , Country , Jazz ,etc . But the problem is that some people get upset when we do some Gospel music as a part of the program . They don't care about Christian people having to play Country but when Gospel comes up some get angry at that . Yes they do have '' tunnel vision ''! It's a shame that some people want things all their way or nothing ! This is why we are talking about having the Gospel Steel Guitar Association . Some of our folks really don't want to get into just playing Country and i do understand their convictions . I know we all don't see things alike but we should try to understand others preference in what they play ! I hope i havn't ruffled any feathers with this reply ! Who loves you man ? G.P.
Gary,
There is no need to apologize for "ruffling" some feathers.
Christians have to take a stand and if we want a gospel show, let's have a gospel show!
Thanks guys i appreciate your support . Zane i love your Gospel songs on u-tube . I am a fan of your playing on U-tube also . Erv i havn't heard any of your playing but i am thankful for your support as well . God bless you and your familys at this holiday season and the coming years . Gary Preston ( President The Ohio Steel Guitar Association ) .
