I survived my first TSGA non-pedal performance!

Been hanging around these folks for a long time... finally got the gumption to get on stage and play. We had a blast, if you've never been you missed out. Thanks to Jana Lockaby for the arm-twisting that made it happen. Thanks to the backup band Chris Woitach (guitar), Gannon Philips (bass), and Nathan Hess (drums). And thanks to the audience!

Re: I survived my first TSGA non-pedal performance!
Congratulations!
I know how daunting it can be. I have never been able to perform well at a steel guitar show. My first TSGA show was particularly nerve-wracking with Scotty and Herb Remington sitting in the first row in front of me. Even to this day, after probably 2000 gigs, I still get unnerved doing these.

Really nice work! Tough playing shows in front of people that are musicians and play the instrument. I used to back a guy on guitar at fiddle contests. He had played thousands of shows but the contest (waltz, hoe-down and tune of choice) really unnerved him, but the spontaneous vibrato was kind of cool...
Bowman SD10 push pull 3x5, Modified Hudson PedalBro, Sarno Tonic preamp, Furlong split, Altec 418B in Standel Custom 15, '67 Showman with D-130F in cabinet, Ganz Straight Ahead, custom Wolfe 6 string dobro, '52 Gibson Century 6, Gallagher OM with acoustic StringBender, '67 Martin D-35s (#3).

Thanks Rick, nice to meet you too. Still decompressing from another Jamboree, finally at home.Rick Trolinger wrote: 15 Mar 2026 4:13 pm I thought you really did a great job playing your set! I enjoyed it. It was nice to meet you.

'Spontaneous vibrato'... exactly! I've realized why artists aren't out front before they play... they're backstage, warming up. I go to the Jamboree, get so busy I don't get time to play... then, get up on stage and do 'customer relations' right before the set. Anyway, first-time jitters are gone, no excuses now!Lee Rider wrote: 15 Mar 2026 2:14 pm Really nice work! Tough playing shows in front of people that are musicians and play the instrument. The pleasure was mine Chris.... let us know how you like that stone bar, my hands have some arthritis and it's just easier to handle for me.Christopher Woitach wrote: 20 Mar 2026 9:15 am You did more than survive - I thought you nailed it! Thanks for having me play with you, a joy
