Case builders

Post by Larry Hamilton »

Dave this may not be the. Proper place for this thread but…..Who builds new steel cases, more especially split cases? I will be receiving a Zum D-10 in the next couple of weeks, maybe sooner, and would like to get split cases it. I know Red Dirt does but that’s a lot of case, I have one for my MSA, great case though. Any help would be appreciated Thanks, LH

Larry, this family has been building cases for many years for many steel companies. I don't think you can do any better.

It's hard to beat Wade Thomas Jr's cases, between he and his dad they've been making them for over 50 years. This is a standard carrying/storage type case, similar you see for most steel guitars. They're great, but don't be trusting them in the hands of your average "who gives a sh_t" baggage handler.

TraceCase in South Dakota does an exceptional job on more road oriented cases. The case pictured below is in between a standard and a full on ATA road case. Weighs about 10 pound more than a Thomas. While not a full boat ATA touring case...its lighter easier to handle and I'd trsut it no problem in the hands of the above baggage handler.

Trace Mahony is the proprietor. On the cases he's built for me, he's been the absolute easiest, most reliable and most on time case builder I've worked with. His website is currently being re-done but his contact info is: 47059 98th Street, Suite 3, Sioux Falls (605) 661-5812 info@tracecases.com

I have an extra set of Kevin Hatton split cases to fit a D10 Zumsteel. Mostly clean with a couple of blems in the Tolex. Larger case comes with wheels and a handle on the opposite end. Let me know if you think they will serve your needs.
